Jobs in North Dakota with free housing
There is a job in North Dakota that doesn't require the employee to have housing. This job is water hauling. If you can find a water hauling job that will allow you to live in the truck during your shift, then you don't have to worry about housing. I wish I had known this before I purchased the wheels in the above picture. Housing is one of the biggest issues for many who seek their fortunes in North Dakota.
My plan was to drive this motorhome to North Dakota and live in it, but the reality was totally different then what I had in mind. A water hauler works so many hours in a day, that having a second home just isn't neccessary. There are companies that only allow their drivers to work 12 hour shifts driving day cabs where housing would be a necessity, but there are many companies that allow their drivers to live in the sleeper of the truck.
I paid a good sum of money for this motorhome and fixed it up quite a bit, but after few months of working as a water hauler, I realized I wouldn't need the motorhome. Even if I had taken the motorhome to North Dakota, I would have had to rent a spot to keep it and then try to keep the mice out of it during my time off.
I'm sharing this information to show others that you don't need to purchase a place to live if you can get the employer to let you live in the truck. I ended up giving my motorhome to the family you see in the picture. They drove it from Utah all the way to Oregon getting about 20 mpg. I realize that some jobs in the oilfield of north dakota require housing, but that housing usually comes with a cost. Even if the company tells you housing is included, don't think for one instant that it's free.
Even if they don't charge you for the housing, they usually recoup the expense in paying lower wages or just taking it out of your check. Why mess with housing when you can be a water hauler? The best job in North Dakota is hauling water and free housing is just one of the perks. Whenever I get tired I can just pull over and go to sleep. I can watch a movie in the sleeper, prepare meals using a power inverter and microwave or an electric burner. I can drive to a gas station or grocery store and pick up supplies just so long as it's on the way.
There is a heater in the truck to keep me warm during the winter and air-conditioning to keep me cool during the summer. Get your CDL and become a water hauler in North Dakota. If you already have your CDL, then just start hunting until you find an oilfield trucking company to hire on with. Be sure to ask them if you can live in the truck. I repetedly see ads on Craigslist of trucking companies that say that the driver can live in the truck.
Many of these companies have a yard where you can park the truck and use laundry, shower and bathroom facilities on site. If you happen to work for one that doesn't offer these amenities, then you'll just have to find out where these can be found nearby. There are some salt water disposals that have showers available free to the water haulers that frequent their disposals. I've showered many times at such disposals.
I go to work in North Dakota to make as much money as possible and the last thing I want to be spending my hard earned money on is housing. If I had taken the motorhome to North Dakota, I would have also had to worry about winterizing it at the end of each of my two week shifts. Not having this extra burden is just another reason why I think I have the best job in North Dakota.
